Jill Stroming Whitman, Harp

Jill Whitman received M.M. and B.M., B.A. degrees in music and German from W.W.U. and the University of Washington. She is the winner of the prestigious American Harp Society Concert Artist Competition from 1991-1993 along with flautist Kenichi Ueda, and tours with the trio Harps International under Columbia Artists Community Concerts management, traveling to Japan, Chile, New Zealand, and throughout North America and Europe.
Professor Whitman has performed with the Anchorage, Oregon, Spokane, and Seattle Symphonies, and was a featured performer at the 1996 World Harp Congress. She co-directed a successful performance of Suzuki harp students from the United States at the 1999 World Harp Congress. As principal harpist with the American Sinfonietta under the direction of Michael Palmer, she was part of their successful 1996 European tour, appearing in such cities as Frankfurt, Berlin, and Vienna. She was a featured performer at the 1998 Wintergreen Music Festival in Virginia, and performed at the 1998 International Flute Convention in Phoenix. She is a member of the popular Winter Harp ensemble in Canada, presenting over 20 concerts in the holiday season. The group has several compact disks to their credit.
Professor Whitman maintains an active Suzuki harp studio in Bellingham in addition to her teaching at Western and is a sought after adjudicator and master class teacher.
