"I was positively blown away with the sensuous music produced by the veteran principal oboist Joseph Robinson." - Paul Hertelendy, USA Today-

New York Philharmonic principal oboist Joseph Robinson is one of the most distinguished symphony orchestra musicians of our time.

Chosen by Zubin Mehta to succeed the legendary Harold Gomberg as Principal Oboe of the New York Philharmonic in 1978, Mr. Robinson has appeared frequently as a soloist with the orchestra, both in Avery Fisher Hall and on tours of Europe and South America.  He studied with Marcel Tabuteau in France and Cleveland Orchestra oboist, John Mack.  He attended Tanglewood and has participated in the Marlboro, Peninsula and Grand Teton Music Festivals.

A native of Lenoir, North Carolina, Mr. Robinson has served on the boards of directors of the Winston-Salem Symphony (where he headed educational activities for four years), the Brevard Music Center, and Davidson College. Joseph Robinson is married to violinist Mary Kay Robinson, a member of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, and is father of three daughters.
