David Perry joined
the Pro Arte Quartet and the UWMadison faculty in 1995. He has performed
chamber music in over twenty countries and recently with the Pro Arte
in New York City, Chicago and San Francisco. Concertmaster and faculty
member at the Aspen Music Festival since 1991, he is in frequent demand
as guest concertmaster of such groups as the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra,
the China National Symphony Beijing, and "Symphony II" in Chicago.
A 1985 U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts, his first prizes have included the International D'Angelo Competition, National MTNA Auditions, and the Juilliard Concerto Competition. Perry has soloed with numerous orchestras in the U.S. and abroad, including the symphony orchestras of St. Louis and Chicago, and summer festival orchestras at Chautauqua, Cullowhee, Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival, and Icicle Creek Music Center (WA). His discography includes over ten Deutsche Grammophon CD's with Orpheus, as well as solo performances of Mendelssohn and Sarasate on the Sonos and Sonari labels. A native of Illinois, his early training was with John Kendall and Almita Vamos, followed by studies with Dorothy DeLay, Paul Kantor, and Masao Kawasaki.
