Brian
McWhorter is actively involved with contemporary music performance,
composition and improvisation as a solo artist and as a member of groups
such as the Meridian Arts Ensemble, the film-accompanying After Quartet,
the percussion-trumpet duo Endy Emby and several new music ensembles
in New York City.
In addition, Brian was a founding member of Extension Ensemble: an award-winning
brass quintet responsible for numerous commissions of progressive composers.
He has recorded with such groups as The American Brass Quintet, New
Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Absolute Ensemble and the After Quartet on
an album that featured his original compositions for two silent films.
Hailed as a "terrific trumpeter" by the New York Times, Brian
teaches trumpet at Princeton University and is a graduate of The Juilliard
School and the University of Oregon. Brian lives in New York City and
has been a member of The American Sinfonietta since 1997.
